gfrancie: (Mother)
Up on this gorgeous day to send the children back to school. Everyone was agreeable about getting dressed, brushing teeth, and sorting their school bags. Senor Onion was less than enthused about me taking his photo... or getting in the car. He almost forgot his lunch money but he was all right in the end. They got into their respective lines, I said goodbye to both, and that was that. Off they went.
Oh. Goodbye then...

I came home and began to tidy/sort through things I haven't been able to get to. I went into town to run a few errands. I dropped off coats and socks that will be taken to refugees in the Calais camp. It seems like such a small gesture, but hopefully someone will be a bit warmer, and have some clean/dry socks. For a bit. I got a few groceries, found a couple of books, and had a poke around in the shops. Everything seemed so much more calm in town. People are still on holiday, but there isn't quite the same heaving quality that has existed for the past couple of months. You could feel that relief that comes as the high season begins to fall.

I picked up the kids this afternoon, and everyone was pretty cheerful. Miss Biscuit told me she did a self-portrait and she used colored pencils to make her hair "a chestnut sort of color. Along with my eyes." (how Bob Ross.) She was happy to see her friends, and it was good to see her teacher again. And that it was different to be in year one. Senor Onion said the day was all right. He said it was a bit weird having his two cousins in his class, and he even worked in a group project with them. Yes. Three Jenners in one class. (and if I'm honest, it is the three most high-strung Jenners of the cousins.) Good luck teacher, they are incredibly contrary, and strong-willed. Their teacher is really lovely, and has this kind of personality that is just plain jolly. She sort of makes me think of Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle.

I need to fall back into my own routine. It was sort of scattered. I did laundry, I did a bit of cooking, tidied parts of the garden. It was also really pretty today, but one could feel the coolness that comes with the shift in the sun's position. Autumn is creeping in like a cat.
