Miss Biscuit is working through a "Frozen" coloring book. She is telling me about Prince Hans, and how she doesn't like him. She said, "I should write 'poop' on his back. In brown! Because poop is brown." She then wrote "I'm poop" on a coloring page featuring Prince Hans. She has really strong feelings about the kind of person he is. I suppose this movie is useful for teaching young girls to watch out for self-serving dudes who prey on vulnerable people in want of love and affection.
We have made it through the first week of school. So far things are hunky-dory. But that can always change. The kids have the same teachers as they did last year, so that helps to make the transition back into school a lot easier. The kids brought home the bit of paper where the teacher let us know what the kids will be learning about this term, and it looks like it will be a pretty fun time. Senor Onion's class is focusing on the theme of the British Woodlands all year long. From the history, (and the private and public ownership of the woods) to the science, and ecology of our Woodlands. They are going to start off by learning about the legend of Robin Hood, and the period when King John and King Richard were running the show, and all about Feudalism. The kids also have forest school this term. Senor Onion was telling me about yesterday's first outing into the nature reserve. They did observational sketching, some general poking about in the woods, and pond-dipping. Pond-dipping was Senor Onion's favorite, which is interesting because he is a kid who isn't fond of getting into the mud for the most part. Of course I am reminded that if he is given a bit of time to relax he will get into it, and will enjoy digging holes, and getting into the sand at the beach. He liked finding the snails and the tadpoles. (they will also learn how to build fires, and use knives responsibly)
In between hugging trees, and learning about fighting your oppressors, the kids will be learning about light and shadow in science, gymnastics and dance in PE, exploring world music, and of course learning how to manipulate text and graphics in ICT. (though I suspect Senor Onion will show the teachers how to do stuff.) Sounds like a fun time.
Miss Biscuit's class has set up the room to look like a doctor's surgery and they will be learning about the human body, the history of Florence Nightingale, and in religion, they will focus on the story of the Good Samaritan, and Mother Theresa. And of course gymnastics, and loads of music/singing. (Miss Biscuit's teacher is very big on singing, which the kids use to learn all kinds of things.)
And hey Jeremy Corbyn just won the Labour Leadership contest. What a time to be alive. I am so excited. Like Obama in 2008 excited. Interesting and thrilling times ahead. Let's get to work to overthrow our Tory overloads.
