So...
Yesterday I went to the county fair. I looked at jam, quilts, crap that is supposed to be art (which is made by boring pretentious people) and of course animals. That was pretty exciting. My siblings acquired a number of blue ribbons for their chickens, rabbits and goose.
I saw breeds of cows which were quite tiny. They are called Dexter cows and they come from Ireland. They look a bit like they had their legs shortened. There was a dexter cow who had just given birth to a baby and the calf was so darn cute it was silly. The calf looked like it had shrunk in the wash.
After that bit of fun, I went and spent the afternoon/evening creating things.
I fell into the position of being incharge of decorating and putting together food for a debutante ball. I truly enjoyed it.
Plus I did it all by myself. That way everything was done the way I wanted.
After the experience I truly understood Martha Stewart for the first time. She may be a tough bitch at times, but she just wants it done her way.
Mind you I don't resort to making people break down in tears, but I can be a bit curt with people.
So for the hall, I carefully strung white lights, covered the dance area ceiling with hanging gold stars. Created a staging area with lot's of flowers and lights and hanging silver stars. I put up a table that was fairly pink and white. Something that says, "sweet girl meets society" It was covered with white candles and Gladiolas, and snapdragons.
For the tables where the guests sat, I put down more white candles and sprinkled fresh rose petals about and created more arrangements of bright colorful seasonal flowers. (Pink and white being a common theme)
Where the food was laid out I had Large lilies and Dahlias and stars sprinkled about on the table. It looked fab.
I Feel so super gay at the moment. *laughs*
It worked perfectly. The deb. came through white double doors escorted by her brother and my brother.
There was lots of waltzing and eating and some entertainment.
It had the right tongue-in-cheek quality and many went home quite happy and tired.
For food, it was again quite simple. Someone else made the cake (thank goodness) and I made so many cucumber sandwiches it bordered on silly. Along with a pesto/cream cheese spread for some crackers. I arranged cheeses, olives, nuts, chocolate and dessert mints everywhere. Plus the required fruit and vegetable platter.
I also made three different kinds of punch.
It worked well for the many vegetarians in the crowd.
They ate everything up with gusto, danced many waltzes and reels and someone else did the dishes.
Everything had a pretty golden pink glow to it and the girl in question looked lovely.
Thank you all and good night.
I don't have to do another debutante ball for awhile, but I do have a number of ideas on how to make it even better.
