Sep. 29th, 2003 07:15 amIn famous dead people who have died news...it seems it is Elia Kazan's turn. He was ninety four. How I admire his work, but I do think of him as a bit of a rat for outing people as communists during the McCarthy era. So one is a bit conflicted at times.

Picasso was a womanizing asshole who felt women weren't truly capable of producing capable art. Yet he did some of the most innovative things in the twentieth century. So we forgive a lot.
The same thing can be said for Eliza Kazan. He was probably one of the biggest fuck-wits around. Yet he could produce some of the best performances and pieces of cinematic/theaterical art in the twentieth century.
