gfrancie: (singin' in the rain)

After a short short day at work, where I reorganized the calendars (I think they like to use my ocd-like behavior to their advantage sometimes) and convinced people to spend more money then they should on books, Andrew came and rescued me.
We went to the market and found the second Griffin and Sabine book for really cheap, bought tangerines and then we went to The Cinerama and saw Singin' In the Rain. Oh my sweet Betsy. I have watched this movie about 100 times. (really) and I adore it with all my heart. It is all singing, all dancing, all talking and all fun.
It was written by Betty Comden and Adolph Green who wrote some of the funniest stuff ever put to screen, and it has perfect songs, Gene Kelly Dancing, beautiful costumes and Cyd Charisse seducing you with her legs and dancing.
But to see it on the giant cinerama screen all I could think of was, "glorious Technicolor, breathtaking CinemaScope, and Stereophonic sound!" (movie musical geeks get that joke)
Oh I smiled the whole film through. I may faint.
Yep, I just fainted.

Andrew who by now has a great one-liner for any film we see, said, "It is amazing how the men always had their tap-shoes on."

Now I am going to tap-dance all over the room.

Ooooh I love the Griffin and Sabine books. A roomate of mine in college had them. Didn't a new one just come out somewhat recently?

Yeah, something like the sixth one. I can't remember. There are so many of them.
I already had the first and third one.
I was pleased to find the second one for half the original price.
Now to acquire the rest.

1. How I love the G&S books. I was fortunate to have learned about them only after the second one was published, so I could read them both in immeduate sequence. But then there was a terrible wait for the third... The fourth one didn't grab me the same way. Maybe I need to start at the beginning again.

2. Movie musical geek, here. Now I can't get that out of my head.

3. I don't have to wear my tap shoes all the time. I just do what they did, and record the sounds separately.

1.You should read the new ones. They are pretty nifty.

2.Right on, we need more movie musical geeks.

3.Of course. How Ann Miller of you.

Oooh ooh, me too! And now your immense powers of persuasion have reached thus far, and I am without any free will. I must immediately proceed to the cd player and listen to the song. Meanwhile I'll imagine Fred and Janis Paige swinging from a chandelier.

I recently saw SITR at a local theater and I must concur. It really was incredible to see it on the big screen. Now where's that cd...

I want to see every gosh-darn movie musical that I adore on the big screen before I die.

I saw American In Paris when I was thirteen and I was immediately satisfied.

My dream is to someday have my own private screening room/theater. Then I can watch all my favorite musicals on a large screen with family and friends in really comfortable chairs.

idyllic childhood, i know...

when i was eight or nine, my parents took me to see a double feature of singing in the rain, and seven brides for seven brothers at this theatre: http://www.austintheatrealliance.org/site/PageServer?pagename=html_ptpamain

they had cartoons and news reels during intermission.

when we left the theatre it was raining.

we linked arms and skipped home.

ahhhhh

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is so much fun.
The clever choreography of Michael Kidd. Beautiful and masculine all at once.

The gorgeous Jacque D'Amboise...lord could he dance.
