It seems the American version of Coupling has been canceled.
I can tell you why. Besides the fact that the actors while being appropriate Hollywood pretty, they just weren't funny. Some people are funny, some people are not. It is not an acquired skill like zipping up your coat. I think the executives at NBC failed to find funny and pretty in one package.
Secondly, it isn't decent methodone for the impending end of 'Friends'. The show isn't fois gras, but it is damn fine macaroni and cheese and all of a sudden they are trying to lay some more macaroni and cheese on us. Only it isn't the homemade stuff. It isn't even Kraft. It is the nasty dirty pathetic weak store brand kind you buy when you are so poor you can't even afford name brand ramen. (Yeah...it makes me cringe too)
Friends draws you in and it makes you happy for a short time. Mmmm sweet heroin. But don't they realize that the show is already showing in reruns on like 57 different channels. We don't need some third rate methodone of a show when we have our sweet sweet high on TBS 11 times a day?

Screw that shit Paco.

Also the British version is much better. Again it isn't Fois Gras, but it is toad-in-the-hole. Comfort food television. Amen.

I personally liked it....

I think the bigger problem was they were billing it as the next Friends, and they also ended cutting out a lot of the more funnier but raunchy jokes. Which brings up the old addage, if it ain't broke don't fix it. So nbc kind of shot itself in the foot with this show, but trying to tweak it too much, plus they didn't even give it much of a chance.

Spot on, as per usual.

Did you ever see the US remake of "Cracker"? Groan.

Did I read somewhere that there will be a US version of "The Office"? Groan squared. Well, maybe not ... I'd certainly give it a try.

I really don't see the point of replicating these UK shows.

Thank you much.

I briefly saw the US version of "Cracker" and it did not impress. So instead I watched the British version on cable.

I think they want to do a US version of "The Office" (which is fucking barnone brilliant) but they are working with Ricky Gervais. So there may be some hope.

They replicate it so they can make more money and won't have to pay as much in royalties.
Cheap I know.

Well, Stephen Moffat was heavily involved with the US version of Coupling, and that didn't help so much... I'll be interested to see how it turns out though.

I've read somewhere that the episodes of US Coupling that were completely new (not a mangled version of the original scripts) were actually quite good - the actors relaxed a bit not having to live up to their British counterparts (I don't know for sure, though, since I only saw the first episode). So I'm a little bit disappointed it wasn't given more of a chance.

I think they listened to too many executives. That is often the death of any show.

I thought of you, the first time I saw the credits for the British version.

Any relation?

I'm sorry it didn't get much of a chance. It wasn't the origional, but I would have liked to see what they could have done with it.

The British version is so much better.
This one seemed weak.

About time.

Good riddance to bad rubbage. The show was horrid, no two ways about it. Everyone involved needs a slap on the wrist for that one.

Poor multi-tasking skills strike again.

Yeah, yeah, whatever! I don't have time for such semantics. Heh.

Many times, hence the reason I am not at all a fan of the bastardized American version.

It's always fun watching what will be copied next. Usually all you have to do is turn on BBC then flip to TLC.

I loved watching Changing Rooms one time, because they redid a room in two people's "weekend" homes in Normandy. I laughed and thought, I need to live in England.
I think everyone needs a weekend home in another country.
