Last night Andrew and I watched the original "Italian Job" with Michael Caine (this is the part where everyone does their cheap Michael Caine impressions) and Noel Coward. It was kind of a slow-moving movie in some respects but it had this neat pacing to it. The ending cracked me up entirely. It sorta comes out of left-field and you are left feeling, "what the hell?"
Andrew looked up some things on the movie and the reason they had the ending they did was they ran out of money. *laughs her painted toes off*

I rather liked the film, and I rather liked the remake. Different approach, but it worked. Though I do kind of feel both films are extended adverts for mini-coopers.
Plus for a film that has Benny Hill in it, it wasn't that....how do I say this...benny Hill-like.
It was sort of amusing to have Noel Coward a genuine sublime English wit who did so much for the modern theater and to also have a man who cornered the market on sped up film and girls with overly large breasts as a comedy genre.

Good stuff to watch on a Sunday night after eating Toad-in-The-Hole.

...

Today I shall hang out with my mother in snooty yarn shops.
Let the fun begin.

Thanksgiving tip of the day:
If you are purchasing a frozen turkey (like many do) I suggest one buys the bird about a week before thanksgiving. You will need plenty of time to thaw the turkey and you want to do it in a slow careful manner so it will turn out evenly.

"You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off."

We've been waiting for ages for that film to come out on DVD so we can put it on our Netflix list. The silly Blockbuster near us doesn't have the video. Now what's that all about?

You are so cool! *laughs*

I had to go to Canada and pick it up at a Virgin Megastore.

If you really want to buy it, I say you should order it. It won't kill you.

Looked again on Netflix: now they have it!
So we bumped it to the top of our queue.

I saw it once, years ago. Liked it. But not enough to buy it now. I just want to hear Michael C. being Michael C.!

It is a fun film. You can see some influence of the mid-sixties English New-wave filming style.
It is a nice silly sort of movie to share with close friends who understand one's deep love of Michael Caine.

(I like doing Michael Caine impressions with my siblings)

"My name is Michael Caine."

Talking of whom, we re-watched "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" the other night. "Ruprecht! Shall I get the genital cuff?"

Great impression!

I think that is one of the first impressions my baby brother learned how to do as a toddler.

For that matter, if you buy a fresh turkey, you should check it the night before to see if you need to take emergency defrosting measures. I had a fresh turkey once. Dinner was at 10pm because it was partially frozen, which I didn't discover until I went to cook it. Oops. (But the dinner was absolutely terrific. One of my favorite Thanskgiving meals ever.)

I found it works to begin defrosting about three to four days before cooking.
About a day before I will let the turkey sit in a bath of cold water. It usually works out quite well. This works for fresh turkeys as well.
