friendship and men in drag. or Tuesday.
Nov. 11th, 2003 05:56 pmWhere to start...*muses a little*
I met up with my friend Meighan and we went and saw "Die Mommie Die". It was fabulous and campy in the traditional sense. It was this homage to "women films". A genre of films that were quite popular from the forties until the mid-sixties. The kind of thing starring Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Susan Hayword, or Jane Wyman. Terrific stuff.
This had me in stiches. The innuendo, the filming style and these small moments that had the entire audiences laughin wildly.
I did enjoy one moment where the lead character Angela Arden watched her husband crawl (as he was dying) and attempt to reach the phone. She just stood there and watched.
It was so Bette Davis!
This is not a movie for everyone. It does have many in-jokes....but there was something kind of fun about it. I think because I watched a lot of those movies as a kid.
Imagine a messed up version of the film, "Far From Heaven".
And the costumes...oh the costumes!
...
It was so much fun to see Meighan. I am so glad she lives near now. I can see her more often. We have known eachother a long time and we always have a big ol' time together. She truly has blossomed and gotten comfortable in her own skin and it is kind of cool to see what she has become.
I have been thinking a lot about the nature of friendship as of late.
I worry about people sometimes. Lately someone who I used to see a lot has gone down a certain path. It has made her distant and a little cruel. I don't think it is a situation where I can really sit down with her and tell her how I feel. I feel like I may have to let her go in a sense. Which always hurts a little.
Maybe in time things may change.

Re: totally off-topic
Date: 2003-11-11 06:37 pm (UTC)I was always concerned about Casey and Finnegan, living in the treehouse out in the backyard, with no adult supervision or anything. Also, Casey never went to school, he never even got any bigger, just stayed the same height...it's a wonder Social Services never pressed charges against Mr. Dressup, ya know?

Yeah I had some issues about Casey living out in the treehouse on his own. I wondered where his parents were.
Mr. Dressup seemed fairly responsible so I figure Social Services didn't want to bother him.

Date: 2003-11-11 11:01 pm (UTC)I think it is so cool that you have gotten to reconnect with Meighan. I recently got to reconnect with some old frineds and was so excited at what had changed and what was happening in their lives. It was really great to see that even though we didn't get to see each other that much, things hadn't really changed that much between us.
On the topic of your other friend....
I know what it's like to see people change and become something not qutie what they once were. It's always difficult to make tough decisions like distancing one's self, but you are right, time can change things and maybe things will return in a sense to the way they once were only better for the time you've spent growing.
