Fuck you down bastards I like the movie.
Nov. 15th, 2003 05:04 pmI survived the meeting. *breathes a sigh of relief*
I won some dumb books. I went to breakfast with a few co-workers. I ate lox and cream cheese on a bagel along with some cocoa. It helped.
Then because
irishotter is so persuasive. "You are going to see Love Actually with us." I went and saw "Love Actually"...for the third time, not like we are counting or anything.
Then She, another redhead we work with (no Eric she is not single) sat, ate ice cream and talked some serious shit.
Goodness the knowledge one acquires over time.
I suspect the rest of the evening will involve very little movement and me falling asleep early. Sweet Jesus talk about pain being up so freaking early.

I think it helps to go with someone who is British or who is a die-hard anglophiliac.
The two girls who I went to see the movie with qualify under those headings in a way.
One was Scottish the other such a die-hard anglopile. It worked well.

Date: 2003-11-15 07:00 pm (UTC)I do my best!
I just grow a little weary of people who are so cynical about some sweet movie that is about love and christmas.
Screw the bah humbugs.
Date: 2003-11-15 07:25 pm (UTC)I may have come across as cynical [Yes, I know you weren't referring to me. I'm just sayin'.] in regard to this movie, but that was more about the hype and less about the actual film. I intended to see it long before anyone starting singing its praises because I'd seen the preview preceding American Splendor and it looked like something I'd enjoy. I just have to do my best to block out all the talk of it until I'm able to see it.
I'm channeling my mother.
Date: 2003-11-15 08:02 pm (UTC)started, that is.
Re: I'm channeling my mother.
Date: 2003-11-16 12:32 pm (UTC)Oh yeah...regarding Christmas. When I was little I used to wish it was Christmas all of the time. It wasn't really about the presents (because that was never a huge huge thing for me) but the feeling of anticipation and the ritual of the whole season.
I dig advent!

Date: 2003-11-16 12:31 pm (UTC)Even if one isn't inlove at the current moment, they should appreciate the idea of it.
I can understand your feeling. The hype can be down-right annoying.
This is what I should point out to you. It is not the most perfect film in the world and it could have had some editing. Richard Curtis has never directed before so that is apparent. There is not a clear storyline other then people finding aspects of love, experiencing lack of it and what not.
It has a genuine sweet feeling about it, yes you are being manipulated but when are people not manipulated when they see a movie and I think people should enjoy the performances by actors who know how to act.
The stuff between Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman is kind, heart-breaking and very real.
I think you should enjoy the spirit of the film plain and simple.
Ignore the cynics, and the film studies majors who don't enjoy anything except obscure films made in 1987 that happen to be made in Malaysia and are black and white three hours long and have hardly any dialogue.
Yay For Love And Chritmas!

Date: 2003-11-17 12:10 am (UTC)5. Sam is a riot, all little boys should start out so romantic.
4. If Natalie is considered chubby, than it's a wonder I can squeeze out my front door
3. Britain will be our next overseas trip. Possibly April.
2. I do in fact have an issue with nudity in films. If you can show tits like there's no tomorrow you had damn well better show some wang. Bloody double standards.
1. My dancing is far too similar to that of the Prime Minister.
Seriously, thanks for all of your posts about the movie, we probably woud not have gone had we not read them.

4.My thoughts exactly. She was too damn adorable as well.
3.You should go. It is beautiful there. A very cozy country.
2.I can understand that issue because there was no peepee. But as nudity goes I found it to be funny not horrifying. For goodness people, it is a couple of bodies.
1.Everyone dances like that.
