All right campers I would like a little advice. If it can be given.
Know of any good hotels in Miami?
If so let me know.
Thank you.

...

I am in a slightly grumpy mood. I think I will watch Martha Stewart and eat chocolate.

Depends on which part of Miami you need to be near! It is a big city, so if you can be a little more specific, I can definitely help you out.

Something that isn't too expensive (I know what a riot...)
I want to avoid the super touristy aspect. Somewhere that has access to interesting things and public transportation.
(which I realize is a bit vague) we are only going to be there for a day or so before going down to the keys.

Well, public transportation is a joke in Miami. You're better off just sitting in your hotel all day or taking a taxi. You'll never get anywhere on the bus, and the MetroRail system doesn't go anywhere interesting either, unless you want to be deposited conveniently near "great shopping destinations", or, even better, Downtown for some gawd forsaken reason.

As far as cheap, I dunno what rates are really, but if you're coming in via Miami International Airport, the Airport Marriot is right there. There are also some along the 836 expressway (which runs parallel the airport) which any taxi driver or airport shuttle driver will know how to get you to. If you want something near places worth visiting, you'd have to stay on the beach or something, and that's gonna cost you an arm and a leg.

What's your budget?

I like this one (http://www.loewshotels.com/hotels/miamibeach/default.asp) and this one (http://www.virginholidays.co.uk/ultimate/hotelpages/308.shtml).

Well...we don't want to have scary rooms, but we don't want to spend an arm and a leg.
It will only be for one night.

I have gotten good rates for NYC hotels from the various online discounters. For just one night, if you don't need to be in a specific location, you could even try hotwire.

We will probably go that route, but I always like to ask people first, because they might offer some different insight.
