We survived the office christmas shindig. It was fun. Same people, same food, same conversation. Nothing was terribly surprising but it was pleasant. I ate my weight in chocolate mousse had a number of cocktails then later on while terribly drunk Mr. Jenner and I watched old Popeye cartoons in our hotel room.

Today we went to a friends annual Christmas brunch. We ate our weight in food, played with a baby (the best cheap entertainment out there) and talked a lot.
Now we are having tea.
Yay tea.

Oh yeah...how about that Saddam being captured. Something else...

I secretly think they knew where he was for sometime and decided to catch him around Christmas to make Bush look good and to get some good ratings.

I know...crazy thought, but considering some of the things our government and particularly the republican party has done over time I wouldn't be terribly surprised if that is the truth.

Mmmmm tea!

I think the environment that allows this sort of distrust and cynicism is the worst part of our political system. And yea, both parties contribute, but that don't make it right.

I admit the democrats have done some pretty uncouth things but come on...watergate, iran-contra, teapot dome scandal.

Yeah, I kind of wondered about the timing too. I wonder how long they knew and if they were just waiting for the best political impact to capture him. Glad he's caught, but I'm skeptical of the circumstances.

My concern is for the people of Iraq and for the soldiers fighting there. I wonder if the immense violence, bombings, ambush and senseless death will decrease with the capture or will it merely continue at its current pace.

I was listening to an arab journalist discussing the situation and said that the US has a terrific oppurtunity to make great gains with the arab community and the global community. If there is a fair (truly fair) trial where there are many international people involved and arab people involved, if there is more done to create a true democracy and not just some puppet government and to involve all islamic sects (sunnis and shiiates, and other religious groups) in creating this new state...then we possibly have a chance at helping the people.

I just hope the administration has the good sense to do that.

I don't have the greatest hope considering their foreign policy so far. I also question a situation where they act like they were getting rid of Hitler when Mr. Bush's father helped support the regime for many years. He was head of the CIA and a vice president who was active in supporting the regime in the war against Iran. Mind you we also sent support to Iran. Scruples scruples scruples.

What a dangerous game we play.

well I guess by your equation, we shall capture bin laden next summer...so that way the shrub will win the whole thing...
Maybe we should all think about what Lieberman said today, "If Howard Dean was in office today, Saddam would still be in power..."

imagine the ratings!

Lieberman really said something stupid yesterday. Everyone else happened to be diplomatic and give congrats. He was just a regular old granny pants as usual.

LOL...granny pants!
I am wondering why anyone would ever want boring Lieberman to run on their ticket anyway...

You need to bring the fussy old lady element to your party.
