I think it is time to take a break from the news at large.
I came across a piece about what happened to a contractor and I can't shake this sick feeling.

I may have to bake something intricate today or something to take my mind off of this digusting situation in life.

Oh Mr. Bush I hope someday you will know the true meaning of humble.

I just don't handle the news very well, and I try to avoid it.

Listening to BBC world service is okay because they make the end of the world sound pleasant with their civilized tones.

Warning: pompous statement to follow. As an art historian (ahem--clears throat), I know all too well the power of images. Thus I avoid most televised news programs, which hopefully reduces the shock value of many of the images--I stopped watching the news during 9/11, when I heard that watching the news was giving people high blood pressure, etc. How could our bodies *not* respond to repeated horrific images and that fake 'crisis' voice they use?! I prefer NPR or the BBC... That said, I get the BBC channel here in Paris and never watch it. I think more than anything else, I just feel powerless to change anything that is happening (I didn't always feel this way... the last election certainly didn't help matters!).
I would love it if someone tied GB to a chair and tortured him, but then I guess perpetuating it really isn't the point.

Yeah..I made the mistake of watching the news on television again and all it has done is make me feel awful.

So it is time to return to the radio and the newspapers which kind of give you a warning of what is about to happen so you can avoid it.
Plus the newspapers have comics.
Yay comics.

I like the foreign newspapers alot, too...sometimes I read London's The Guardian weekly edition. Ever since I read a Marxist analysis of the last election, I've been hooked! You would *never* see that in a US paper!

Not often...
I work in a place where we receive a ton of foreign papers and we always look through them to see what is really going on at times.
