[livejournal.com profile] amai_unmei would appreciate a moment like this.
Today I had a customer today was just too pretty for words. He was German and kinda had that Hitler Youth look about him. He was also wearing A&F and being polite and pretty.
My first thought when seeing him was, "he really should be making out with some cute boy."
I told a few co-workers this and pointed out the boy in question and they agreed.
Maybe it is watching "Cambridge Spies" and seeing all that pretty boy Communist kissing action that makes me think of things like that.
This guy was "Chariots of Fire" pretty if that makes sense.

So I came to work and saw two of my least favorite people at work and my first thought was, "this is so 'the suck'" but it worked out fairly well in the end.
I got to work with pleasant people. I had some nice customers and I had ice cream today.
What is not to like?

I bought some more Aveda shampoo. The girls who work there know how to get me to buy things so easily.
I went and bought a new skirt today. I think I like it. I am too tired to really know.
I may return it. I tried on the uber trendy flouncy skirts.

like this.
It wasn't pretty. Some trends were not meant to be.

I found something simple but very pretty. I figure I can wear it to work and when going out.

I saw a lot of skinny women wearing that skirt and variations upon it the other night down in OT. I have not even worked up the gumption to try one on.

It doesn't even look good on most skinny girls. It makes their legs look awful.
Avoid trying one on. It is a trend to pass on.

I think I need this:

Just got done watching Jason and the Argonauts on AMC. Thought of you when they got to the oh-so-chic Medea (Nancy Kovack) and the coture priestesses of Hecate. :D

And how. Even on the skinny girls it looks bad. Except for one very chic looking chinese girl I once saw in nottinghill when in London.

I bought a skirt like that from Torrid (via Ebay) last year...it had a big satin sash and was pink with black polka dots, if I remember correctly. It looked *horrible* on me, and I had to sell it, but I was briefly enchanted by the 80s look of it! At least it wasn't tiered!

It was adorable! Very "Pretty in Pink". Alas, I am cursed/blessed with a bubble butt. Yup, the only white girl ever. So the front looked cool, but the back barely kissed the bottom of my bottom, so as to speak! Alas, alack. I have some other prett-tay Torrid treats, though.

I think I will cruise ebay for some clothes.

I found basically my entire wardrobe on Ebay (last year I decided that I needed to feel good about myself, and part of that involved getting rid of all my old clothes). Most of my things are from Lane Bryant, Torrid, and sometimes Avenue, although I do hate looking like every other fat girl. Which is why I'm trying to learn to make my own clothes--skirts, at least. There's a shop here in France that is kind of cute-sy in a fun way... Les Filles a la Vanille (Vanilla Girls). I can't seem to find a photo of their stuff on-line, but my idea is an asymmetrical skirt with ruffles and hot pink lace, in a black and white polka dot fabric. Or, alternatively, pink and white stripes with a tulle faux underskirt (several inches of tulle just sewed on to the inside of the bottom seam). I hope I can do it! If I manage it, I could make you one if you'd like. Someday. In exchange for books?

I am slowly making my own clothes. It is just difficult to find the exact thing I want.
I think I need to work on making my own things more that way I can have the look I want without being dependent upon fashion designers.

When you say, "it is just difficult to find the exact thing I want," do you mean patterns or fabric, etc.?
The range is patterns out there is even more frustrating than the range of plus-size clothes--both are so limited. I'm hoping that eventually I can make more of my own designs...it's not that difficult if you choose an easy style and use an existing outfit as a kind of template. But so far, in my lifetime, I've only ever made a sleeveless shirt that way. :)

It is a little of everything.
My Mom has had good luck finding great sources for patterns that go to a number of sizes.
Again on ebay.
You should look at folkwear patterns. Sometimes they have some keen things which can be adjusted.

If one has the money, they can afford anything in Europe when it comes to clothes.

True enough about the latter comment... I think it's Marina Rinaldi, or a similar name, that I love. Her clothes are quite expensive, but very elegant. And then there's Eileen Fisher in the states, and a few other big names. But no way that I can afford them...
I have found patterns on Ebay and in the store (Joann's had a sale while I was home--5 patterns for $5!), but the range is still inherently limited--the plus size patterns are for different outfits, usually, than those made for skinny gals. And there are far fewer.
But now I have a stack of 10+ patterns waiting to be made, so I'm not looking for anything new at present. I have to make some capris and a peasant shirt before they both go definitively out of style!

The 50's style circle skirts are cuter and more universally flattering :)
I have not tried on a tier skirt but 1 ruffle at the bottom seems to work ok...

Yeah I am much more keen on that.
I bought something similar to that yesterday.
I think I may just make myself some. That way it looks super on me and I can say, "oh this? it is a Genevieve original, part of my line of saucy clothes for saucy women."
But I will act all modest.

Actually you have the legs to carry off wearing that skirt.

It was actually more of an impulse buy. There's a reason I haven't worn it yet. ;)

P.S. Did you get my email?

I think the skirt I bought yesterday qualified as an impulse buy. I am not quite sure how I feel about it yet.

No I do not believe I got an email from you.

I bet it is very easy to spank someone's bottom with a skirt like that.

It is easy to spank or be spanked when it comes to any kind of clothes. It is just a matter of wanting to bad enough.
