Did I mention that I tried to burn down the house today?
Yes. Thank you very much.
There was some gunk in the bottom of the stove that wasn't coming off with my handy-dandy attempts. (Last night we figured there was an issue when we went to bake some fries in the oven and there was a minor little fire)
I turned on the self-cleaning oven element and figured it was time to get rid of all that gunk.
Well....
I went to check on things and make sure windows were opened wide enough (sometimes there can be toxic fumes when you are doing stuff like that) and all of a sudden there was a big ol' fireball inside the oven.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Then I heard a WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH noise and I became very scared. I said in a very quiet voice, "oh....dear." I quickly turned off the oven and gave up on cleaning the oven.

I will try harder to remove some of that gunk at the bottom.
I do not like large fireballs in my oven.

Holy crap! Is the stuff in the bottom of your oven gunpowder or something? That's crazy! But, it must have looked kinda cool too...hmm I'm just trying to think what might be in there that'd cause so much fire. You know, if you let the fire go on then the oven would get clean..

I am sure it would get clean but this was the sort of fire-ball that worried me.

I am thinking it was melted sugar. I am not sure.

Man, I remember when you did the same thing with the brussel sprouts on thanksgiving a few years ago. That was kind of a cool fireball too.

I have never quite mastered control over fire.

it might be worth 40 bucks to have a good housecleaner come in, scrub it down totally, and perhaps give a tip on how to avoid it recurring?

Da house! Da house! Da house is on fire!

I have a few ideas of what happened.

Sounds exciting. There are some very strong cleaning products you can buy for ovens, have you tried those?

Or you could simply remove the offending very dirty piece and bath it in concentrated Sulphuric Acid. Wear rubber gloves.

I was worried about my bunnies so I opened up all of these windows so they wouldn't die.
