New Anthony Bourdain book coming out in May. I may faint with delight.

I have thank you notes to write. But first I do believe Mr. Jenner and I shall go to the movies. Then it will be home for tea and Christmas cake.

Thank you thank you thank you for the heads-up!!!

Tish and I both adore AB. Tish, mostly because she's a little (5-foot-nuthin) version of him who used to be in the business and will never stop being so in some ways. His attitudes are the same as hers on so many things. Me because I think he's effing right on a lot of shit. T was just reading one of the books aloud to me last night and we were giggling.

But the new Les Halles cookbook? Hi, sellout. He swore he'd never write a cookbook or do a food network show. Well here's the damned cookbook. And I didn't bother buying it cuz I'd rather read him pontificate on everything under the sun, frankly. And the show, well I love it. But if he changes it and becomes all sweet and mellow, or bows to the "stop drinking so much on camera" crap, I'll be mad. And besides, Travel Channel is owned by the same folks as Food Network. Yep, Sellout. But on his own terms at least I suspect.

His cookbook is pretty good actually. Because he swears and yells about shit and technique in the book. His shows are really funny because he makes fun of the genre a ton. He makes fun of Bobby Flay, nearly gets killed sometimes and smokes like a fiend through-out the entire day. Great stuff.
There is a great show where he gets fucked up on absinthe.

yup, saw that one. One of my favorite scenes ever was the one where he got a massage and had the whole mud bath/detox/purifying thing. Afterward he was like "Goddamn I feel WAY too healthy," and lights up. I think that was Iceland.

I also love how suddenly the last 2-3 locations, he's started saying at the end of the show how seeing the rest of the world is changing him and he's not so sure he can ever go back to NYC full time now. I don't blame him. The world expands you in that way.

Honestly, I almost bought the cookbook fdor T for Xmas anyway, but we don't do much in the way of french style cooking because there is not much way to adapt it to our strict dietary needs/issues. As I flipped through I was like "well, there're maybe 3 recipes we can eat, even with adaptation." So we'll wait for paperback for the hilarity.

But yes, don't get me wrong, I love the show. I just have to say that he's sold out cuz really even HE would call himself a sellout for this. And has :)

Oh, did you see the Kuala Lampur (sp?) episode where they gave him the body treatment (I can't call it a massage cuz it was like torture) and he was like "make it stop, I'll do anything! I'll even say Rachel Ray is a great cook!" Yep, I was dying. He's such an asshole. S'why I love him.
