today the puppy bit my lip. I thought to myself, "geez and you didn't even buy me dinner."
Tonight I am going to my mother's show, but I still have time to create something nice for dinner.
Tonight inspiration comes from the Alice B. Tolkas cookbook. One of the best cookbooks written in the 20th century.
She tells meandering little stories inbetween her simple, yet delightful recipes. It also has a nice little painting by picasso on the front of this worn yellow paperback.
I am making Beef Bourguignon, a green salad, some bread and for dessert (if I can time everything correctly) a chocolate souffle.
Simple but filling.
I was thinking of doing omelettes for dinner, but I found some beef in the freezer and it is a fairly cheap cut of meat, but perfect for stews, plus I had some burgundy left over that I needed to use.
After I browned the beef in a bit of olive oil (I reccomend extra virgin) I sauteed a chopped onion in butter, until soft and brown. then I cooked up a bit of bacon.
after all of those were taken care of. I placed the beef in a large pot, added some wine and a bit of water, a kitchen bouquet (bayleaf, sprig of thyme, sliver of nutmeg, clover of garlic) and some course brittany sea salt I recently bought. It has a nice dull grey colour and is quite large. I am letting it cook over low heat for a few hours. It should make the meat quite tender and take on the flavors of everything.
Later I will add a bit of flower and whisk it and make a gravy. Add carrots and potatoes (I like the red waxy varieties, more nutrients and less starch)cook for awhile longer. then place upon a platter and serve.
along with a green salad some buttered bread and ta-da dinner.
while everyone is eating, I will make up the souffle, serve that soon after, once everyone falls asleep I shall rifle through their pockets, take anything of value and leave.
oh yeah and go to my mother's show, have some wine and maybe a bit of cheesecake and think lovely thoughts.
I think I want to try and cook duck.
any thoughts?
