I had a conversation the other day with a friend about clothes and how irritating it can be to find something appealing and I mentioned how on occasion I just by-pass the shops and pay my Mother to make something for me. When I added up the cost of what it cost me to have her make me a skirt sometime back I realize I could have probably bought a couple of skirts at regular price in a typical department store for the same price. But at this particular price I have a skirt that is custom-fit, of high quality in terms of fabric and workmanship and is one of my favorite pieces of clothing. It was worth the cost.
It makes ponder if the average woman with not a ton of money would rather have fewer items in her wardrobe of higher quality then tons of so-so quality items that don't quite fit properly. Sure a lot of people say they would but is that really the case? The lure of ready to wear is the cheapness and availability but the downside is if you don't have the exact measurements for something it might be a trifle baggy in one area or a little bit tight in another spot. It isn't even a matter of size sometimes which is a source of greater irritation because the sizing for clothes varies so much from line to line and store to store. At this point in life I genuinely have no clue what my actual size is. I seem to wear a size that spans four to six possibilities. It is a source of amusement sometimes. I can pretend I wear a fairly small size and appeal my ego and other times I just feel like an elephant. It is always something.

In some ways it makes me more curious about seriously putting together my own small line of couture clothes for ladies. It wouldn't be aimed at teenaged girls. They have their own clothes. The clothes would be for adult ladies who like clothes, don't really want to spend their life on a treasure-hunt to find an outfit that fits them in all the right places. Give me your thoughts.
Would you be willing to spend 100-150 dollars on a skirt that was tailor-made just for you and maybe only six other women in the world might own that skirt?
I keep thinking about friends who might have broad shoulders and not a large bust and can't find the right top or maybe a small waist and a flat ass and hate how their skirts bunch just a bit because of it.
I keep thinking of the woman who doesn't have a lot of money to spend on clothes but might have some (due to a tax refund, savings, bonus) for the moment and wants to acquire a good dress that will last at least five years.
And at the same time if I had such a line I would want the seamstresses to be paid well for their time and skill. I am not so keen on making money for myself but I like the idea of good seamstresses making living wages and women having good quality clothes.
This is all hypothetical of course. Merely pipe-dreams for now.
But I am curious to hear what the women have to say.

It seems many in the land of LJ are having one craptastic time. From health issues to family issues. It makes me wish distance wasn't such an issue for some. I would have everyone over to drink tea and cry their hearts out if they wished.
Nothing like a good weepy session to let it out. Especially if it is followed by some tea/hot chocolate and maybe something to eat. Then naps for everyone because we are six.

Here is something to amuse yourself with.

Tonight I will present a passage from the ol' past. Here I own up to the cryptic posting I had been making. I had known Mr. Jenner for barely three weeks and I was so fucking excited over him that I could hardly sleep ever.
I still feel that way.
The man makes amazing cheese on toast and sex.

So yeah. Have a good laugh.
