what to do!
Aug. 26th, 2005 05:54 pmIn the Pacific Place Mall there is a piece of art (at least I hope it is art) that is a sort of of vertical piece of glass that has red splatters painted on it. They are various shades of red and they look a bit like lightning only more random. For some particular reason this reminds me of a painting I once saw on a field trip in high school. I did Yearbook (a horrifying thought in some respects) and when we would have a bit of slack time after getting a portion of the book edited and sent out to the publishers our adviser would take us on field trips to slightly interesting places. One time we went to a printery and they showed us all the cool advances that were being made in the use of color within printing and how refined it was becoming. Another time we went to the gallery that was owned by the Father of my brother's best friend. (The gallery owner died a few years ago in a rather tragic manner) The gallery owner was an amazing artist who also showed a number of fascinating artists. I recall one painting that was a concentration of blues that was of a forest and a clearing was near by. It was strangely light-filled despite the fact that it was so dark. But the painting that reminds of the one in the Mall was again a vertical piece of glass and it was slighty broken/smashed and red paint streaked down from that broken spot and the piece was entitled "Menstruation".
I admit I giggled when I saw the piece in the Mall. I thought to myself, "I wonder if they know if they have a heavily vaginal metaphor next to Cartier."
