Today was a day where I was all wound up. By 5:30pm I didn't like anyone. If I could have, I would have sent myself for a time-out. Some days are like that. Thankfully dinner calmed me down. It wasn't terribly fancy but everyone was relaxed. I sauteed sardines with a bit of olive oil, dill and capers. Tossed that with pasta and toasted bread crumbs and sprinkled parmesan cheese on top. It makes me think of a slightly up-market tuna noodle casserole in terms of flavor. I love sardines. We had this with broccoli and garlic that had been braised in white wine. After dinner children were bathed and put down for the night. I was able to slouch on the sofa with Mr. Jenner. I also baked some muffins for breakfast.

This morning I took care of some grocery shopping and then took Senor Onion to the library. Afterward we went to a near-by coffee shop. The hot chocolate was just so uninspired. Who knew that hot chocolate is hard to make? Senor Onion appreciated the chocolate donut. I had this turnover pie thing and it was just so lousy. I think I may have to bake a pie or something this weekend to set things right. The filling was bland and the pastry was just so tragic. I kept wondering what happened. Is it always like this? Was the chef having a bad day and it came out in the food? It happens. A pie of ennui.

Friday there is the market. We need potatoes. I have no idea what I will make for dinner. Maybe something will come to me in a dream. My family is coming to dinner on Sunday and I think I might make something with lamb. Hey family, what are you in the mood to eat? And don't just say, "anything is fine" I know that. Does anyone have a craving for something? An aversion?
Isn't that great about the internet, I can shout out to my family for everyone to hear like some loud neighbor.

I am thoroughly enjoying The Buccaneers. I keep wanting to write down lines and I find myself thinking, "damn Wharton knew people."
