Things are slowly coming together in my head and I put things down on paper so everything is still very loose.

I went to the butcher today to pick up meat for today and tomorrow's dinner. I ended up writing this afterward.

Butchers seem to fall into two categories. There are the young bearded types (who sometimes look vaguely orthodox) who likely woo women wih talk of house-made mortadella and the particulars of breaking down a Mangalitsa pig and the pure joy of a piece of quality pork belly and there are the gentlemen of the old school. They look as if they should frequent a Cormac McCarthy novel. They have stories about seeing some guy lose a finger or two in the meat grinder. They prefer their steak medium rare with little or no adornment. They only get poetic when recalling the marbling on a fabled aged steak they once had. As if recalling some hot experience with a woman.

Still very much a rough-draft but I am beginning to get some sense of the direction things may go.

Here is what I am giving away on Freecycle this weekend.

Bamboo placemats
Bamboo is the hip thing these days as it is all green and sustainable and you
can make anything out of it. Including a three course meal and a car to drive it
home in. I am only offering these placemats. They have yet to be taken out of
the packaging. The joys of being married for years is that you still find
wedding presents that have yet to be used. One is standing there with their
spouse going, "who gave us this? Are we ever going to use it?" There are faint
memories of maybe an Aunt or cousin giving this gift but it is too vague.
Enjoy this vague gift. There are six in the package.

A ceramic sake set
Of course you want this. It is awesome. It has four little cups and a cruet. Go
forth and get yourself some quality sake, invite a few people over, drink it and
enjoy yourself.

A small animal dish
Maybe you have a bunny, a guinea pig, a very very small dog who likes to eat
with intention. They need a dish to eat out of. I have one. It was used once. My
dearly beloved rabbit took one look at it and said no thank you. (and by no
thank you she threw it out of her cage) she preferred her old mangy dish.
It's blue, plastic and can be put in a dishwasher.

Tons of emails are pouring in.
