roaring with existence
Mar. 9th, 2015 11:09 pmSenor Onion had a much better day. He looked less tired when I came to pick him up. I will likely go and have a chat with his teacher tomorrow to check in, and discuss things. This weekend I didn't dwell too much with him on all of that. I did keep him close, and we did things together, which he enjoyed doing. (we made pesto!) Sometimes we just hung out and cuddled.
This morning I was there to visit Miss Biscuit's class because they were doing a thing where the parents could observe how the kids learn/do math. (I refuse to say "maths" because I don't want to sound ridiculous. Just like I won't say fabulous pant.) It was illuminating and it seemed fun. One thing the kids do is use math in their play. They had a table set up with one of those mats that have roads and works. They then had assorted toy cars on the mat, and they would do things like line up cars that are stuck at road works, and then add some more and then on their little white boards, they would do "number sentences" and figure out a sum. (example 4+3=7) And then the kids would play a bit with the toys, and then maybe come up with another scenario where they could add or subtract some cars. It was a flow between play and learning. After Miss Biscuit had done that for awhile, it was becoming kind of loud and frenzied and she asked the teacher if she could go and read somewhere quietly. The teacher said yeah sure, so Miss Biscuit showed me the play corner that was set up to look like Space, and a rocket.(they are talking about space and the solar system.) Then she read me a book.
I continue to ride my depressive episode, I am worn out and today I was near tears. but I take a kind of pride in the fact that I am getting all kinds of things done. I just keep moving. The most difficult thing is the effort at being functional in public. "I am just fine. Everything is just fine. I hope this is the right face to use to engage with other people and have normal conversations." (Allie Brosh has talked about this one.) I had some time where I felt pretty good today. Or at least distracted. I need to remember that.
A friend had me read something they wrote, I put some effort into a creative project, I made muffins, I got to hang out with my kids, I did some laundry, and entertained the cat.
