a real princess pinecone
Sep. 2nd, 2015 11:02 pmMiss Biscuit woke up this morning and was six. So hilariously six. She kept saying through-out the day, "OH MY GOSH THIS IS THE BEST BIRTHDAY EVER!!!! I LOVE BEING SIX!!!" I hope the year keeps up that level of excitement and joy for her.
One of her favorite presents came from her brother. He gave her this plush of Lady Rainicorn. (a character from Adventure time.) She was so thrilled, and kept it with her all day long, and had it flying about the room.
We had a party for her, and many of her class-mates showed up, along with cousins, and another friend who lives nearby. We had a bouncy castle, and loads of sweets. Everyone was loud and excited, and the tears were few. The kids were mostly between five or six, and I was struck by how much they could figure out when to with-draw and have a bit of quiet time when the bouncy castle was too much for them. They would go off either by themselves or maybe with another friend, and maybe play quietly with some of our toys. And then they would go back when they had found their energy was restored. There were also babies about (a great party if you wanted to hold a baby or three.) and they had room to play and move about. I was pretty pleased with how the party turned out.
Miss Biscuit was so pleased with every present her friends and family brought her. "OMG, this is the best!!! Thank you so much!!! I am so proud that you came to the party!!!"
Senor Onion spent much of his time with his cousins E. and S. as they are the oldest of the kids. They had their scooters and skateboards and went up and down the lane. This is what they do now. You find a lot of kids doing that when the weather is half-way decent. (which it was today. More than half-way decent. It was down-right nice.) Though at one point we couldn't find them (just before the cake and candles of course!) But a few minutes later they came tumbling in. (with slightly concerned Mothers.)
My sisters in law stayed after, having a good chat and slouch on the sofa, while the kids had a bit more time together. The sofa that makes people say, "nope... not going anywhere."
I still have dishes to deal with, but it was indeed a good day.
I am tired, and still find myself in awe of Miss Biscuit. Much like when she was born. She shows up, and is here to rule the world. She told me today, "I am SIX! Nothing can stop me now!" Oh to bottle that confidence and sell it to the world.
